BARDOLOGY is a board game that I designed for an English course, and the name comes from a play on words and history. A nickname for Shakespeare is the Bard of Avon, which is derived from his legendary mythology of being a poet and playwright. In the game I include a lot of fun facts and miscellaneous information about Shakespeare, his life, and his works. One example is that I included three different sets of trivia cards, which will help further retain the knowledge about who he is as a historical figure. On the spaces of the board game, I also included iconography and symbolism that tie to the plays in different ways. For example, icons such as statues, quill pens, and jesters are featured prominently throughout the game. This is to make players of the game think about their representation and meaning in regards to his texts. “theatre cards”. If a player lands on a certain space, then they must answer a question involving reciting a passage that a character spoke in the play. This is once again reinforcing the subject material in the player’s mental space, which is in turn helping them have a greater admiration and appreciation for the thespian and literary genius that he was.
